UNO HOTEL Special Exhibition Chapter 1: Dear Someone Chapter 2: The Beginning: Crafts and Calligraphy

UNO HOTEL will be holding a special exhibition consisting of two chapters.
The quiet atmosphere of "feelings" and "beginnings" gently touches the memories and sensibilities of those who visit.
Please take your time to listen carefully to the stories that each chapter weaves.

◆Chapter 1 Dear Someone – Thinking of someone –

Period: Sunday, December 7th, 2025 to Sunday, December 28th, 2025
Exhibiting artists:

Akiko Toda (glass)

He began making glass in 1999. In 2003, he graduated from the Glass Graduate School at Kanazu Creative Forest Ezra Glass Studio BLOW. He currently works in Saitama Prefecture.

I create works that link the characteristics of glass, such as transparency, melting, and light refraction, to thoughts such as changing perspectives, removing limitations, and returning to basics. I hope that having something mysterious nearby can be a tool that inspires someone or something to return to their original state.

Seiko Kajiura (Metal)

After graduating from Tokyo University of the Arts with a degree in metal casting in 2003, I studied sculpture and lost-wax casting in Indonesia. The casting process itself is at the heart of my work, and I am endlessly fascinated by and pursue the transformation of something fleeting and temporary into the permanent material of bronze.

Creation is a dialogue and negotiation between intention, materials, and technique, and the work is completed through this interplay. I aim to create works that go beyond mere meaning or message and have a definite presence of their own.

Chapter 2: The Beginning | Crafts and Calligraphy

Period: Monday, December 29, 2025 - Friday, February 13, 2026

*Closed for maintenance from January 13th to 19th

Exhibiting artists:

White Akira (calligraphy)

He began studying calligraphy at the age of 8. He creates works using natural materials that have been used since ancient times, such as Japanese paper and ink, as well as paraffin wax, ink, and acrylic.

The theme is "Living in the Here and Now." He creates works using words, letters, and abstract concepts, contemplating both verbal and non-verbal communication. He confronts the mystery of how something becomes the past the moment it is written. He is interested in where the very act of thinking in Japanese, speaking in Japanese, and writing Japanese by hand leads.

Kuniko Kinoto (pottery)

Using ceramic techniques that imitate natural phenomena, he creates stones that do not exist in nature. He creates a core using glaze and clay derived from minerals, and then carves out the stones that have been melted and affected by gravity during firing using a grinder.
By repeatedly going back and forth between creating shapes made by his own hands and those made by natural phenomena, he creates new stones that could not have been created by man or the workings of nature alone.

Eri Asano (lacquerware)

Born in Tokyo in 1986
Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Crafts, majoring in lacquerware in 2010
2016 Completed research course at Kagawa Prefectural Lacquerware Research Institute

Akiko Tsunenobu (Shippo)

Graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School of Fine Arts with a major in metalwork in 2017. Using the traditional craft technique of "wired cloisonné," she creates works based on motifs that she finds "beautiful" or "interesting."
I aim to express the beauty of Japanese food through the colors and transparency of glass and the delicacy of metal found in Shippo. I hope that everyone who views my work will enjoy eating it as well.
