North-facing Jizo
On his way back to his hometown after completing a pilgrimage around Shikoku, a traveling monk who was begging for money slipped and died at Shiohama Beach, No. 26 on Hirogata while trying to get warm in the winter. The locals enshrined him on the bank of the beach to pray for the monk's soul and called him "Nishihirogata Jizō-san." In later years, Shiohama Beach was reclaimed and the Jizō-san was moved to its current location and came to be known as "Kitamuki Jizo."
